Let Us Be Mindful of Him

“It has been testified somewhere,
“What is man, that you are mindful of him,
    or the son of man, that you care for him?
You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
    you have crowned him with glory and honor,
putting everything in subjection under his feet.”

Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
-Hebrews 2:6-9 (ESV)

What is mankind that he is mindful of us?

It is interesting that the author of Hebrews would quote Psalm 8 in this passage of showing that God put everything under Jesus, and has given him full authority. And though we do not always see what God is doing in our lives, we do see Jesus. A life and a work that looked like it was over when he was crucified is now reigning, supreme, full of glory and honor BECAUSE he suffered death. We can always look to Jesus.

That is what communion is about.
That is what community is about.
That is what church is about.
That is why we meet.

This is why we live.

 We are remembering Jesus, looking to him to help us remember that God always comes through on His promises. He tasted death so that we do not have to, he is the reason for the grace that we have in our lives, and when those times come where we are left pondering where God is, where God was, how awful life is treating us… we can look to Jesus. His life was made new, and He is now crowned with glory because of his faithfulness in his death.

He is mindful of us, come, let us be mindful of Him.
